I realize so far all my posts have been “single product detailed review” types, and most of the times, I probably won’t get to those until I’ve really used up a product. I don’t like to post reviews until I’ve used a product for at least a couple of months, since my skin is super reactive. So, I’m starting a new “Currently Loving” series where I’ll highlight products that are really working for me. I hope to do these on a monthly basis (we’ll see!)
Tatcha Polished Deep Rice Enzyme Powder – If there’s one product you should buy from Tatcha, let it be this. The powder cleanser is available in three strengths: Gentle, Classic and Deep. This is one of my armors to keeping acne under control. There’s absolutely nothing like this on the market – mix water with about half a teaspoon of the powder and rub your hands gently to convert the powder to foam. I like to leave this on for a minute or so and let the enzymes really work. Even if I have lots of cleansers under rotation, this is a permanent staple for me and I make sure to use it daily, at least once.
Yuli’s Modern Alchemist – As the weather turns cooler, I am switching to a heavier face oil. Bonus? This oil smells delicious – a very subtle rose scent. I apply exactly 3 drops in the morning and 3-5 drops at night, depending upon how dry my skin is. I was very scared that this oil might make me break out since it’s the heaviest face oil that Yuli makes, but happy to report no break outs! Although mostly known for its anti-aging and natural retinol-like properties, I think this oil is helping even out my skin. I had some older acne scars on my right cheek and I see them slowly fading.
Valentina’s Home Brewed Protection Detox Perfume Oil – This brand is such a hidden gem and I feel like not even sharing it with anyone. But I’m nice, so I will 😉 I discovered this brand while browsing the skincare/bodycare shelves at Marshalls. Most natural perfume oils fizz out in less than an hour on my skin, but not this! The fragrance is long lasting and very relaxing. I’m such a sucker for anything Frankincense and this blend contains Patchouli and Myrrh as well. They also sell these oils in larger 1 oz size and I’m probably going to bathe myself in these pretty soon – I use Coconut Oil as my body oil (the only oil that can adequately moisturize my super dry skin) and I think I’ll put some generous droppers of this blend into it. Very reasonably priced, highly recommended.
Andalou Naturals Brilliant Shine Sunflower & Citrus Shampoo – I have used high end, super expensive shampoos in the form of Yarok, Rahua, and I can say that, for me, this reasonably priced shampoo does an equally good job. It lathers really well, and keep my oily hair grease free for at least 2 days after cleansing. I don’t like to shampoo more than twice a week (thrice if I absolutely have to) and this shampoo lets me stick to my goal. If you have thin, oily hair, I’d say give this a try.
Pukka Herbs Night Time Tea – Ever since I’ve returned from my trip to Istanbul (follow me on Instagram for all my pics!), I’ve been going crazy researching various herbal tea brands, the ones that are truly natural, organic and don’t use any questionable added flavors (artificial or natural). While Pukka does use added flavors in some its blends, the company is super transparent about it. And SBL stocks them too. This blend with chamomile and lavender is so soothing and relaxing at the end of the day, and makes me ready to go to bed in no time! If you have trouble falling asleep, try this blend.
