Yuli’s Pure Mask v. May Lindstrom’s The Problem Solver

  1. I may be one of the really unlucky ones that cannot use May Lindstrom’s Problem Solver. Between the three natural births I’ve endured, this is right up there with one of the most painful experiences I’ve had. I shed tears and my entire face turns beet red after I use it. It’s so painful and hot that I sweat which causes the spices to go into my eyes. Just a horrible horrible experience!

    1. Oh no!!! So sorry to hear this mask didn’t work out for you 😦 Have you tried tempering it down with some manuka honey or rose water? I usually don’t like to apply clay masks with honey, but it really helps ease down the spiciness. Worst case – it can be used as a body pack I guess :\

  2. VERY NICE post!! Wow thank you, because i’m interested to try Yuli mask for a while! I have the problem solver but i can’t use it in winter, my skin is too sensitive ( because of all spice in it).. I have Yuli halcyon cleanser (which i LOVE) i wanna try skin fuel from yuli.. Do you try it ?

    1. I have a small deluxe sample of ME Skin Fuel – used it sporadically, because so far I really love Liquid Courage and Modern Alchemist. In comparison to those, ME Skin Fuel doesn’t do much for my skin. It’s much lighter though and is well suited for acne prone skin and doesn’t break me out. If you have to chose one, I would say go for Liquid Courage =)

  3. For me it has to be YULI Pure mask all the way. Whereas May Lindstrom Problem Solver is hot and spicy, I found YULI Pure to be cool and soothing which worked better at calming down redness and making those stubborn blemishes go down. My skin feels better right away with the Problem Solver as it has a grainier texture (exfoliating) whereas YULI’s washes off easier – yet the mask that gives me the glow the next day is actually the YULI mask. For some reason, eventhough the jar for Pure is smaller, I use these two about the same amount of time, perhaps because less is needed of the YULI Pure powder per application for me at least.

  4. Thanks for the review! I’m currently torn between purchasing something from May Lindstrom’s line or from Yuli Skincare. I’ve tried samples of May’s products before but not Yuli’s, so I’m still on the fence. I’m really curious about Yuli Skincare and if it lives up to the hype.

    1. I think Spirit Beauty Lounge sells samples of Yuli. Plus, Yuli also offers deluxe sizes on their website. When it comes to face oils, I prefer Yuli over May’s, because they’re formulated keeping in mind troubled, acne prone skin. My skin hasn’t reacted that well to May’s face oil.

  5. This is such a great post! I admire how thorough you were with each category so people could decide which mask suits them better based on what they look for in a mask. I wish that I could buy both as I love YÜLI’s ease of use and removal, but May Lindstrom’s efficacious, luxurious ideals is simply beautiful.

    1. I think it’s difficult to justify spending a lot of money on clay masks when anyone can walk into a grocery store and buy simple ingredients in bulk, hence the question that if we have limited funding, where do we splurge? May’s mask is definitely extremely luxurious, and yet quite reasonable in the long run.

      1. Part of the reason I love shopping is that most green beauty brands are created by passionate, amazing people that I love supporting who truly care about what they put into their products.

  6. YULI wins the comparison for me personally. I don’t like that May uses baking soda which is terrible for skin and just couldn’t continue to use it after I realize that.

    1. Hi Sasha, That’s a good point. I try to avoid baking soda too, but it seems to work fine in this particular composition. But of course, I do make sure I use a proper pH balancing toner post masking session. Good to know you really like Yuli! Xx

  7. Hi Ruhi! I really enjoyed reading this comparison. Your reviews are so thorough and well thought out. You mentioned the warming/heat in the May L. mask and the fact that it also stains, so I’m going to look into the Yuli mask. Anything that could stain the grout is a no-go in my household as it drives my husband absolutely insane. lol.

    1. Hi Grace! Thank you for reading x I am glad you found it helpful. Yes, The Problem Solver is literally black in color when its dark….if you’re into gentler masks (which I think you are, after seeing your preferences on IG), Yuli might be a better choice 🙂
